Why I should Win

This 1949 Chevy Fleetline my wife and I purchase off of her Grandfather. He is now 84 years old .This was one of the last cars that he restored. We just moved him to an asisted living facility. He is diagnosed with Alztheimers. I would love to turn this car into an heir loom in remeberance of him. The car looks pretty solid but it has its issues. The rear fenders are long hair fiberglassed in as well as the fender wells and the outer rocker pannels, When we purchased the car it had the orginal 216 6 cyl. And the 3 spd on the column. My intention was to leave the car orginial as possible. I took the car to the first car show in May of 2007. Upon returning home I noticed a puddle of antifreeze under the car. The block cracked. Very dissappointed I was in quite a quandry.I my self have had 4 back surgeries and have 4 vertebrae fused in my lower back, i love to do it my self but sometimes physical limitations prohibit me. I am not here to tell a sob story about having back surgery or what ever . I just want a bad car.I have done some minor work to the car but i would love to put a proffesional paint job on it. I would love to turn the car into a work of art for My wifes grandpa to see while he is still here his health on a constant decline I am afraid that i will not be able to get it done int time as money is very short. Please help me. I really would love to have some extra cash. I have a 16 month old son and i would love for the car to be around for him to drive later on and pass it down another generation.

The new Aluminum radiator

Well yesterday I tore out the original radiator from 1949 that was in the car. I had bought a new aluminum radiator from KMJ performance out of Ames Iowa. So as you know in traditional hotrodding building I got the new radiator droped in and of course. Houston we have a problem. Nothing major, thankfully its just the flex fan hitting the back of the radiator. So I ordered an electric fan to put in and I am waiting for the mounting kit to get here. I have a few things mocked up to see if we are g… Continue

charging problems can drive you crazy...i've worked on enough of them...a couple of them i never was able to solve...make sure you're starting with a good battery and alternator...have both tested...most parts houses will do it for free if you bring them in...if they check out...isolate the circuit...the circuit for charging...in reality...is a simple circuit...check out a wiring diagram for roughly the year of your alternator...a good alternator needs to put out between 13.5 and 14.5 volts...NOT 12...you need great grounds thru out...not just 1 or 2...clean ones...to raw bare steel...and tight ones at that...every connection needs to be clean and tight...you can be chasing everything else...and over look the obvious...look for voltage drops...and voltage drains...you can have something simple staying 'on'...and not know it...it will drain a good battery...trunk lights...glove box lights...interior lights...even though the bulb is burnt out...you can have a slow drain if a circuit is complete...if everything checks out...or you run into bad wiring...then by all means change out the wiring...go with a known company...cheaper isn't always better...tell them exactly what you have...and what you plan to have...don't leave yourself short...no pun intended...lol...quality wiring lasts forever...and realize that it will take time to do it right...i hope this helps a little.........denny :)

James, I'll let you know of any events that I'll be attending in the area. Or you can keep track of where I'll be on my blog at www.suedeandchrome.blogspot.com. I really want to put a split manifold and dual carbs on my '50, but I'm currently putting the $$ into the cosmetics of the car. I think we've went up to the Ducktail Run and James Dean every year since '84, last year was the first year I've taken a car.

James, Thanks for the comment. You're right, it is a small world. I know EXACTLY where Devil's Backbone is! Too funny! I live about 10 minutes from Muncie, IN now, so we make it up to the James Dean Festival in Fairmount every year.

p.s...Great looking '49!

If you get ahead and need bumpers that ned rechroming, let me know. Got an extra set. Hope mine looks as good as yours when I'm done. Need a heater box under the hood. Gt one I can get?
